Brian Talma who has become a worldwide brand in many sporting events involving the sea, has launched into new waters, having recently been the poster boy for the Stand Up Paddling World Cup in Hamburg Germany.
The unmistakable Talma grin greeted competitors and visitors at the Hamburg airport and throughout the city which Talma spoke of with such pride and passion that one overlooked the fact that he had placed 20th in the event which he has only recently added to his repertoire of beach culture action.
“The sponsors knew of my involvement and achievements in windsurfing and they told me that they just wanted to use me for the posters. They did not care if I competed or whether I won,” Talma said.
Those same sponsors have already booked Talma to head off to the Maldives to promote his beach culture as well as stand up paddling. Even so, Barbadians will not miss out on Talma’s expertise as he is staging an event on the west coast next month.
Talma has also received support from the Tourism Development Corporation to publish a booklet entitled: A Week in Barbados – Beach Culture. That booklet contains sage sayings and artistic drawings from Talma who believes that embracing beach culture whether it be swimming, music, food, sailing, surfing or just stand-up paddling were the answers for any perceived recession or slow down in visitor arrivals.
