Big day for cruise industry

SATURDAY WAS a bright and sunny day for stakeholders in Barbados’ cruise industry.
Seven cruise ships with about 12 000 visitors were docked at the Bridgetown Port: the Ventura, which stayed an extra day to accommodate passengers who were stranded by a winter storm that closed airports in Britain, Vision Of The Seas, Royal Clipper, Adonia, Celebrity Eclipse and Wind Spirit, with Oriana berthed at the Flour Mill.
Many of the tourists strolled out of the port and took in historic Bridgetown or left some foreign currency as they shopped.
Meanwhile, several taxi drivers were smiling as they rolled into and out of the port, taking tourists to various drop-off points or on all-day tours.
Saturday, February 2 and Saturday, March 2 are also expected to be bumper days for the port, with seven ships scheduled to call each day. (AH)
