The British government has said it will not intervene in the campaign two women are waging for an inquiry into how their rape complaints were handled by the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF).
Dr Rachel Turner and Diane Davies, who reported they were raped just days apart in October 2010, have been calling for an independent investigation into why Barbadian Derick Crawford was charged even though they insisted he was not their attacker.
Turner told the SUNDAY SUN Davies had written to the British Foreign Secretary seeking assistance in getting a probe started but was told that the Foreign Office could not interfere with Barbados’ judicial system.
“The decision to call a public inquiry must rest with the competent Barbados authorities,” stated the January 14 reply to Davies, which was copied to Turner and Heather Heath, a previous British rape victim.
