Oh, that he had stayed longer

DEATH IS THE ONLY GUARANTEE we have in life; yet, when the grim reaper lowers his sickle, we cannot stem the tide of shock and awe, and the overwhelming sorrow.

I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to David’s family and to my fellow Barbadians. I know that you can find comfort in the knowledge that he is now resting in peace in a better place.

We all wish that his life could have been spared for him to stay with us much longer, but, sadly, it was not meant to be.

Taking to heart the words of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, I will not use this medium to look back on the long road that David and I have travelled.

Instead, I urge my fellow Barbadians to look ahead with confidence; for the next journey you are about to undertake is also led by a gentleman and a statesman.

At this time of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with David’s family and the people of St John whom he so dearly loved.

We will remember him.

Wishing I was at home.
