FIRST WORLD STATUS is a way of life. First World countries are all mature democracies, and in them are checks and balances – even for those who govern.
For Barbados to become First World, it needs to cultivate and nourish our democracy and the rights of citizens, placing no citizen above the rule of law.
As we advance, let’s look beyond per capita income, the number of vehicles, the housing stock and other material indicators, which though important are not the end all.
Let us focus on health, the dispensation of services, the level of productivity of our people and national pride.
First World status is hard to achieve unless we change the mindset and the psyche of our people.
