Push for semi-pro leagues

Government is “kicking” towards semi-professional leagues in various sports in Barbados.
Minister of Sports Stephen Lashley made this announcement as he delivered the featured address at the opening of the lucrative LIME Pelican Out Of Season Football Tournament at the National Stadium last night.
“Government recognizes the need for semi-professional leagues which would afford our athletes the opportunities to transition into the professional arena,” Lashley said.
“I must therefore urge you not to let this semi-professional league operate as business as usual,” he added, pointing out that there can be “life-long, professional and lucrative careers but the attitude of the players can determine the level of success”.
