Ten days before former general manager of the Barbados Transport Board Sandra Forde was to answer six questions regarding the appointment of eight contract workers under the Special Project Mangrove, she accepted a severance package.

A letter dated July 9, 2018, signed by acting permanent secretary of Ministry of Transport and Works, Mark Cummins, a copy of which was obtained by THE NATION, said that after discussions with Forde, eight people were employed from March 2016 as part of the project.

The categories included security guard, general worker, vehicle inspector, trainee vehicle inspector, apprentices (vehicle inspector) vehicle inspector (welder), vehicle inspector (electrical) and trainee vehicle inspector (welder).

The individuals were said to have been employed on a six-month contractual basis, which was renewed at the end of each period. However, a decision was taken prior to March 2018 to move the eight contracted employees to established posts within the Transport Board. (RA)
