Teachers got a jolting reminder of their responsibility to children who fall under their charge yesterday. In an impassioned address to about 3 000 teachers about to begin various training programmes at Erdiston Teachers Training College, Minister of Education Ronald Jones implored the group to be “messengers to the soul(s)” of Barbados’ children. He said teaching was not only about equipping children with concepts, but emphasised the teacher’s final remit was “to civilize people”.And he made it clear he was not satisfied that enough was being done  to embrace the slower children falling behind in the classroom.
