In honour of Parliament’s 375th year

With the loud cry “Hear ye, hear ye” Clerk of Parliament  Pedro Eastmond yesterday signalled the official unveiling of a heraldic ceremonial banner by heraldic artist Ann Rudder marking the 375th anniversary of the third oldest parliament in the British Commonwealth.
The unveiling ceremony, which also marked the historic joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament, included a commemorative stamp issue in recognition of “the outstanding universal value of one of the world’s oldest postal systems”.
The new stamps feature Barbados’ first black Chief Justice, Sir Conrad Reeves; the Speaker’s Chair; Sir Kenmore Husbands, the first black Speaker; Britain’s King Charles the First; and a souvenir sheet of the Mace, the Bridgetown Coat of Arms, and the Clock Tower. (GC)
