Exposing sex act right move, says Matthews

Barbadian society has been labelled as politically, socially and religiously corrupt by Reverend Dr Gordon Matthews for condemning the SATURDAY?SUN for carrying the story of two students engaging in sexually activity at a local school.
“I am appalled by the condemnation the NATION has been receiving. The NATION must be congratulated for exposing the sex affair which took place,” he said on Tuesday.
He added that instead of condemning the newspaper for exposing the matter, it should be a call for all to take stock.
He also took issue with Monsignor Vincent Blackett of the Roman Catholic Church and Marilyn Rice-Bowen of the National Organization of Women, saying: “They have no authority whatsoever to pontificate on morality and it is time that those of us in Barbados with conviction speak up and speak out, or we perish.”
Matthews said he was willing to work with the children of the island to discourage such acts.
He said he contacted the Chief Education Officer about three years ago to volunteer his time to go into schools to motivate children in the area of virtue.
“It is virtue which will keep a society strong and good. I am still willing to offer myself to let children know the facts of life and what is expected of them in this life, and how to prepare themselves as great citizens of the future.” (LK)
