WHILE I AGREE to live and let live, as we say, and everyone of us has our rights under a democratic system, there are laws and morals to be upheld.
Being raised and socialised in the norms, skills, attitudes and values of a Christian society, I thought that certain things – things in their broadest sense – would not be allowed to happen.
The recent show held at the Plantation Garden Theatre was not a bodybuilding or a calypso show, but a drag queen show.
I thought “queen” was a title for woman, mainly a king’s wife or, as men would say, “my queen”, meaning my wife or woman, not my man.
Seemed as though the show had its sponsorship, and it should not be for economic gains all the time. Some moral thought should have entered the planning.
What are we adults putting out there for our young children and grandchildren to read and hear?
Is this how we are going to socialise them? Obviously, permission would have been granted to hold the event. What will we give permission to next – gay marriages?
I believe that this kind of show should not be held at any public venue, but in a private setting, because what a person does in his or her private home is his business.
I believe also that all people with moral and Christian values, though we are not perfect, should condemn that particular show.
This letter may be late [after the show] but this is my personal opinion.
We should not be afraid to speak out about these issues. If we do not speak out it would seem as though we accept the issue as right and proper.
