KUDOS to your newspaper for publishing the story on newly appointed attorney-at-law Alphonza Carew (Weekend Nation July 23).
His story is inspirational and shows what a combination of goal-setting, drive, and hard work can achieve.
Stories such as his demonstrate that one does not have to and indeed should not settle or “accept one’s lot in life” but instead you dream big, set a goal and put in the work and make the requisite sacrifices to achieve it.
It will oftentimes be challenging and can be a downright slog, but “perseverance seldom fails”.
At various times in the past your newspaper would have also published stories of persons who started their working lives in one type of job, but made in some cases what maybe considered radical switches in profession and went on to greater success.
One example that springs to mind is that of the gentleman at one of the secondary schools who started off on the ancillary staff as a groundsman but ultimately went on to further studies until eventually elevating himself to a teaching post.
Stories like these need to be printed more often to show that one never has to settle or be pigeonholed no matter what others might say or think, as well as to inspire young persons who may have developed a mindset that they are destined to be less than great and they have to accept being just one of the crowd.
Furthermore, it shows that education does open doors even if you have to kick them a few times!!!!!
Find something you are passionate about and everything else money, fame and so on should all fall into place. Keep up the good work.
