KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) said it has rescued 50 Honduran fishermen who had been abandoned by an unnamed Honduran vessel while fishing illegally in Jamaican waters today.
The JDF said that the fishermen are now being processed by the police in Port Royal after they were plucked out of the sea by the Coast Guard.
According to the JDF, their vessel sped off when it was being approached by the Coast Guard leaving the fishermen stranded.
In recent weeks, increased vigilance by the Coast Guard and Marine Police has led to the interception of several boats fishing illegally in local waters. (CMC)
