Clean-up army

Bath Beach in St John was covered by more than sand and seaweed yesterday as about 100 soldiers from the Barbados Regiment staged a clean-up.
Major Michael Jackman, the officer commanding the special operations company, said the job was bigger than he anticipated.
“The members of the Barbados Regiment (right) . . . have been tasked to clear the beach here at Bath. There was a lot more seaweed here than I originally imagined. We started at around 6:45 this morning [it was 10 a.m. at the time of the interview] and have collected more than 700 bags of seaweed. We actually ran out of bags,” he said.
Jackman said the BDF was happy to participate in such an activity as it not only benefited the environment but the officers as well.
