British Airways cuts

BARBADOS COULD SEE a decline in British tourist arrivals next summer with a planned reduction in flights to the Caribbean by British Airways.
It’s “not good news”, president of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) Colin Jordan said yesterday.
British Airways’ chief executive officer Keith Williams last announced flights to the region would be reduced by approximately six per cent next summer in an effort to focus on more profitable routes, a decision which he attributed largely to what he described as the UK government’s “destructive tax juggernaut” of Air Passenger Duty (APD).
In a subsequent disclosure to the Daily Mail’s TravelMail, BA confirmed it would decrease its flights from Gatwick to Barbados from ten a week to seven, while its twice-weekly service from Gatwick
