CBU seeks dialogue on broadcast switch

The Barbados-based secretariat of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) is trying to set up a meeting of stakeholders to establish how they will manage the costs and the expense implications of the mandated switch from analogue to digital broadcasting in a few years.
Broadcasters from more than ten Caribbean countries made an appeal for urgent and wide-ranging consultations on the impact of the switch on consumers, broadcasters and on media business in general.  
They did so after expressing concern about the issue at the just concluded annual general assembly of the CBU, which was held in Belize.
According to a release from the CBU, Belize Prime Minister Dean Barrow has called for dialogue on the matter.
The CBU said it was unlikely that governments would have the resources to help consumers buy hundreds of thousands of set-top converter boxes that will be required. (PR)
