Youngsters rolling in the mud, blackened bodies swaying to calypsos and upbeat mustic, men who showered themselves with flour, people honking horns and others waving flags from passing vehicles.
Those were among images captured around Grenada yesterday after the moment that 100 000 and more people waited for, finally came.
After weeks of anticipaton and adrenaline rush, Grenada’s Kirani James created history at the 2012 London Olympics.
The 19-year-old 400m star, known as the “Jaguar” had Grenadians at a stand still as he took his position at the starter’s point all the way through to the finish line.
In a time of 43.94 seconds(the best in Caribbean history) he became Grenada’s first Olymic gold medalist and the fastest 400m runner in the world.
In a post race interview, James said he was happy that he was able to maintain his focus and bring home the medal that so many Grenadians waited for, for so long.
