The opposition Barbados Labour Party has called for the “immediate resignation or dismissal of the Police Service Commission” to arrest what it sees as ongoing unrest within the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF).
The party has also called on Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin to speak out about the problems he is being confronted with in the force.
The party’s statement was in response to the legal action taken by 15 police officers, including nine from senior ranks, challenging their omission from this year’s promotion list in the High Court. The court is also being asked to quash the promotions of the other officers.
Former Attorney General Dale Marshall charged Thursday that the RBPF had become “completely politicized, with breaches in the chain of command, tension between the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the leadership of the force, resulting in such things as specious and preposterous charges being brought against the commissioner”.
