Benn leads Barbados fightback

LEFT-ARM spinner Sulieman Benn grabbed a five-wicket haul to bowl Barbados back into contention on the opening day of the WICB regional four-day final against Jamaica at Sabina Park on Friday.
With the hosts making encouraging progress to reach 154 for one in the post-lunch session, Benn teamed up with fast-medium bowler Carlos Brathwaite to undermine Jamaica’s progress.
When stumps were drawn, Jamaica were 266 for eight after opting to bat first.
Benn, who came into the final with 36 wickets at an average of 14.02 in six matches, finished with five for 90 from 29 overs, while Brathwaite took three for 38 in 17 overs.
When Jamaica were in command, Benn intervened by grabbing the wickets of Donovan Pagon (71) and opener Brenton Parchment (58) after the pair featured in a second wicket partnership of 108.
Jamaica slipped to 195 for six just after tea, but the unrelated Millers – Horace (18) and Nikita (29 not out) – came together to halt Barbados’ advance. (HG)
