SEVERAL of the island’s top golfers will be driving and putting in the dark when the Barbados Golf Club hosts its night tournament tonight at Durants Golf Course.
The public is invited to come out and witness this novel event, which will start at 6:30 p.m. and feature balls that glow in the dark and glowing flag-sticks and tee-markers. Holes on the greens will also be outfitted with glow products and carts will be specially decorated to increase visibility.
The tournament was intended to be the finale to Golf Week 2010 but heavy rains on September 10 caused its postponement.
Tonight’s event at the Durants clubhouse is being sponsored by Mount Gay Rum and more than 50 players are expected to compete over four holes for a range of attractive prizes.
“It is going to be an exciting evening and an opportunity for families to come out and witness a rare event. Night golf is a lot of fun and good entertainment and coincides with our effort to stimulate greater interest in the sport across the island,” said Trilicia Crawford, executive assistant at the Barbados Golf Club.
Following the challenge of night competition, players and spectators will join in a big party at the clubhouse where entertainment will be provided by Wayne Jackman and the ShowTime Band. (CH)
