SUPERINTENDENT OF PRISONS LIEUTENANT COLONEL JOHN NURSE is calling for a national effort to give ex-offenders a second chance.
During a service at St Philip Parish Church to mark the Barbados Prison Service’s annual week October 14 to 21, Nurse said the region was unforgiving of its ex-offenders but this had to change.
“Unfortunately in our region, it is indeed an undeniable reality that our societies are very unforgiving towards ex-offenders.
“But as a prison service, we are convinced that if we in Barbados are truly intent on achieving developed status, then programmes like Second Chance in the United States] and Yellow Ribbon [in Singapore] must be developed and embraced by all. (CA)
