The Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC) cricket team is back home after a successful tour of Bangladesh.
And head coach, Graeme West, is hoping that when the West Indies travel to that country in 2014 to defend their ICC World Twenty20 title, players from the HPC will be included in that squad.
The Sagicor HPC lost to Bangladesh “A” in the lone four-day match, before rebounding to defeat them 2-1 in their three-match One-Day series. They also lost the two-match Twenty20 series 1-0, after the first game was rained out.
Speaking to the media shortly after the team arrived at the Grantley Adams International Airport Monday after their month-long tour, West said that while he was pleased at the team’s performance on the Asian continent, he was looking forward to seeing some of his players being promoted to the senior team.
“It was a great experience for the guys. The tour really helped to give them some good exposure as they played against guys who were better combined, having played over 500 Internationals between them,” he pointed out.
“In two years, when the West Indies travel to Bangladesh to defend their Twenty20 title, hopefully, a couple guys will be on that team.”
Captain of the HPC team, Carlos Brathwaite, also hailed the tour as a success, although he admitted that it felt good to be back home.
He said that the experience which they garnered would go a long way in helping them to become better cricketers.
“The guys are pretty relieved to be back home after three and a half weeks in Bangladesh. I am definitely pleased with the team’s performance, but I am happy to be back home.
“We left here with two goals in mind: progression and winning. We defeated a strong Bangladesh “A” team, and also drew two games we would have definitely won had the weather not intervened, so that took care of the winning part.
“And as a fielding and bowling unit, we did extremely well, so I really think we progressed well in that department.
