Provencal laid to rest

The voice of the late Doris Provencal soared in the sanctuary of the Coral Ridge Memorial Chapel earlier today as mourners listened for one last time as the curtain fell for the late soprano and music teacher.
The brief dignified service began with a recorded rendition of Mendelssohn’s I Waited for the Lord from The Hymn of Praise, a duet performed by Provencal and her daughter, Carole Bishop, as the cortege began the procession up the aisle, led by the Reverend Anthony Dickenson of the Roman Catholicv Church.
Many a quiet tear was shed later when the musical tribute “Shepherd on the Rock” featuring the voice of Provencal herself, with accompaniment by the late Prince Cave on clarinet and Dr. John Fletcher on piano, was played.
Provencal gave and participated in several classical recitals here and imparted much of her musical knowledge to young students privately and in schools such as Christ Church Girls’ Foundation and St Gabriel’s. She also worked with Barbados Rediffusion Service for nearly 25 years, hosting several classical music programmes and co-hosting the popular Children’s Party.
