Simon Lewis captured his first Under-18 singles title winning the Fortress Nassco Series part one by beating the No. 1 seed Michael Jordan 6-3, 6-3 in the final at the National Tennis Centre.
But in a reversal of fortunes, Lewis was beaten by Andrew Symmonds in the Under-16 final 6-3, 6-4.
Symmonds also won the Under-14 title defeating Ajani King 6-2, 6-1.
The boys’ Under-12 title went to Gabriel Taylor who defeated Calumn Sumpter 4-2, 4-0.
In the doubles, Jordan teamed up with Brandon Lee in the 18s to beat Lewis and Luke Humphrey; King teamed up with Jared Spencer in the 14s to defeat Symmonds and Yannick Polanen, while Taylor and Ajani Yarde beat Sumpter and Christopher Philips in the Under-12 doubles.
After many rain delays, the final match played was the Under-16s doubles final in which Lewis and King lost in a third set super tie-breaker against Symmonds and Joshua Worme.
In the girls competition, Melana Lopez successfully defended her No. 1 position with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Cherise Slocombe.
Slocombe won the Under-14 title defeating Ilana Blackwood in the semi-finals and winning the final in a walkover from Kiana Marshall who was out of the island.
Kayla Frost won the Under-16 title, defeating Blackwood 6-1, 7-5. Jamie Lewis and Symphony Griffith won both the 16s and the 14s doubles titles, defeating Blackwood and Akayla Ellis-Agard and Blackwood and Frost, respectively.
The tournament also featured an Under-10 division which was keenly contested. The boys’ title went to Romani Mayers who defeated Kaipo Marshall 8-3. The girls played a round robin and Megan Gilkes came out the winner, while Alyssa Inniss-Gittens was the runner up. (PR)
