Straughn: Big projects key

Jump-starting the economy will mean employing thousands in a short space of time, says Minister in the Ministry of Finance Ryan Straughn, as small projects are not having the required impact.

He was speaking on Voice of Barbados’ Down To Brass Tacks yesterday after calling the radio programme in response to questions from the public.

“We’ve seen small projects pop up from time to time but it has not had the scale or impact . . . . The reality is that we need the better part of two to three thousand people working in a very short space of time in order for the impact to be felt in the economy,” he said.

The Government, Straughn said, was focused on doing what it had to so people could make decisions about when they would start investments and how they would secure financing. (AC)
