The top brass of the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) is today tight-lipped regarding an apparent targeted gun attack on one of its members.
The officer in question, said to be a high-ranking member in the Criminal Investigations Department, was not injured and the vehicle he was driving was not hit by the bullets.
When questioned regarding the matter that reportedly occurred on Wednesday night, police public relations officer Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss said he was awaiting instructions and therefore could not comment on the particular issue, but he said investigations were ongoing.
However, reliable sources in the force, who spoke to the The Nation on condition of anonymity, maintained that “no stone will be left unturned until the culprits are held”.
The officer was driving what was believed to be an unmarked police vehicle along Yorkshire Road, Christ Church, around 9 o’clock on Wednesday night, when two men on a motorcycle approached from behind and fired a number of rounds.
According to sources, the officer did not return fire, but they were adamant that this matter would not be taken lightly.
However, it could not confirmed if the attackers were targeting the officer specifically or members of the force generally.
“Men on the road, especially criminals . . . do know police vehicles and they got piece of gun and they probably just want to show that they got metal, so they would fire off some shots and keep running,” a source added. (SDB Media)
