Barbados ‘still on track’

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team has departed Barbados satisfied that the country’s economic reform remains on track.

Yesterday, the delegation led by Bert van Selm, ended a four-day visit during which it got an update on Government’s implementation of the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT) programme, which is being supported by the IMF under its Extended Fund Facility (EFF).

In a statement issued after the mission’s visit, which the Fund noted was at Government’s request, van Selm said: “Barbados continues to make good progress in implementing its economic reform programme.”

The areas of progress he highlighted included that the international reserves reached $1.48 billion at the end of 2019, from a low of $440 million in May 2018. (SC)
