Danielle Titus won double gold for Barbados in Peru over the weekend, breaking the championship records in the 50 and 100 metres backstroke.

Her medals were the only ones earned for Barbados in Lima.

During Saturday’s second day of the UANA Swimming Cup, the dazzling 17-year-old clocked the winning time of one minute, 03.93 seconds in the 100 backstroke in the 15-17 girls division.

The St Michael School student entered the competition with a time of 1:04.60 and was hoping to beat the Olympic B time, which stands at 1:02.06. However, she will have other opportunities with the earliest being Long Course Nationals and the CARIFTA  Aquatic Championships in March and April.

Along with the new personal best in that event, she returned to the pool yesterday to clinch the 50-metre backstroke with a record time of 29.72. That register bettered her entry time of 30.43. (RG)
