A SIX-WICKET haul by West Indies pacer Kemar Roach led Barbados Pride to a comfortable victory over the Windward Islands Volcanoes and opened a lead of 29.2 points at the top of the standings, when the sixth-series contest ended yesterday at Kensington Oval.
Roach took six for 84, with four of his wickets coming on the final day, as the Volcanoes, resuming on 73 for three in search of a target of 399, were bowled out for 271 at 2:21 p.m., with Keron Cottoy not out on 103.
Barbados scored 419 and 239 for four declared. Windward Islands made 258 and lost seven wickets for 198 runs on the final day to succumb to the tournament leaders.
All ten Windward Islands wickets fell to the pacers. Barbados also earned maximum batting and bowling points to become the first team since the start of the Professional Cricket League to earn the maximum 24 points in a match.
Cottoy was the only major stumbling block in the path of the hosts as he hit a belligerent unbeaten century, but the greater satisfaction went to Roach and the Pride team who have now won five consecutive matches.
Roach, who accounted for Roland Cato and Andre Fletcher yesterday, made his presence felt from the first over on the final morning after a 35-minute rain delay, when he had Devon Smith leg before wicket without adding to his overnight 16.
