MOST OF THE BARBADIANS getting support from Government’s Trust Loan Fund are seeking to own their own businesses in the service and retail sectors.
This was revealed by general manager of the fund, Jerry Amos, who told the DAILY NATION that just over $13 million was distributed to small business people in the last year and a half.
“The Trust Loan Fund started in November 2018 and so far about 4 000 people showed interest in getting a loan,” he said at the fund’s booth at Agrofest in Queen’s Park, where four clients showcased their products. “Of that number, 2 947 people secured loans and it is good to see so many people getting into entrepreneurship.
“From a sectoral point of view, most people are in the service industry followed by those in retail. So we have barbers, hairdressers, people doing lawn care and massages.”
He said people also came forward for loans for the We Gatherin’ Barbados initiative, with 61 clients from St Lucy alone. (SB)
