MINISTER OF HOME AFFAIRS Edmund Hinkson isn’t buying what former Prime Minister Freundel Stuart is selling.
The Member of Parliament for St James North on Sunday dismissed the recent comments by Stuart, who argued at a Democratic Labour Party branch meeting in St Philip that Barbados’ default on its international debt by the Mia Amor Mottley administration was a far worse indictment than the more than 20 downgrades his administration received by international rating agencies.
Stuart had paid special attention to a decision to defer a US$80 million payment on a Credit Suisse loan.
“We had no choice,” Hinkson said at a branch meeting at his constituency office in Lower Carlton.
“All of us run households. You can only pay for what you can afford. But for the people, for you, we made that decision and restructured our debt, which we have done successfully. (BA)
