The Ministry of People Empowerment and Elderly Affairs is rolling out protocols to protect vulnerable groups in society from the coronavirus (Covid-19).
Following a church service yesterday to mark the official opening of a National Assistance Board recreational centre at the Holy Innocents Anglican Church, Welchman Hall, St Thomas, Minister Cynthia Forde told the media that plans were in place to ensure the safety of those living at the Clyde Gollop Centre, Lancaster House, Vauxhall Senior Citizens Village and other nursing homes and shelters under the care of her ministry.
Forde said home helpers and auxiliary nurses were being prioritised in these plans since they visit the elderly administering care.
“There are quite a couple hundred of people who benefit from the services of home helpers and emphasis will be placed on these workers in particular,” she said. “Those seniors, those with disabilities and so are at home and hardly anyone visits and it’s up to the home helpers to take care of them. So we don’t want contamination to happen.
“We have put protocols to make sure each of those households is given hand sanitisers and other things required to ensure cleanliness continues,” she said. (SB)
