There is light at the end of the tunnel for some Barbadian student-athletes in the United States.
While all sporting competition has been suspended or cancelled due to the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19), the Division One council of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) decided to grant an extra season of competition and extension of the period of eligibility.
The decision means that double Carifta Games gold medallist Jonathan Miller, who studies at the University of Florida; University of Houston’s Jaquone Hoyte and Tristan Evelyn, along with Hannah Connell, of Iowa Central Community College; and Barton County Community College freshman Shemia Odaine will have the chance to compete once the coronavirus is under control.
The council also adjusted financial aid rules to allow teams to carry more members on a scholarship to accommodate incoming recruits and student-athletes in their last year of eligibility who decided to stay. (AGB/NCAA)
