Days after the Chief Justice revealed he had given Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes the duty of solely dealing with all curfew cases, ten men accused of breaching the Emergency Management (COVID-19) Curfew (No. 3) Directive 2020 appeared at the District “D” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

They were charged with being outdoors without a reasonable explanation at times ranging from 4:05 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. They were held between Friday and Sunday in areas like Belleville and Cheapside in St Michael; Parris Hill and Bissex, St Joseph, and Haynesville, St James.

Among that number were three accused who had appeared on wounding and serious bodily harm charges in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court last week, and were brought back to court (as opposed to a charge sheet), to answer curfew charges.

At the end of the day’s sitting, two were sentenced to six months in prison, two were fined and the others, who pleaded not guilty, were released on bail and told to return to court in August.
