Barbados’ top athletes will not have to worry about losing funding because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) has implemented plans to ensure 90 of the best competitors are well taken care of, despite COVID-19 having a huge impact on the sporting fraternity.
Word of this came from president Sandra Osborne as she addressed a live video press conference yesterday morning to provide an update on the BOA’s response to the pandemic which has brought international sports to a screeching halt.
“We are very firm in our commitments to continue supporting athletes. Athlete funding will not be reduced unless this impacts negatively on our viability. We are therefore continuing with our current funding programmes as planned. Funding cutbacks will be the last resort,” Osborne told reporters.
