GEORGETOWN – Three soldiers are dead and at least one injured following an explosion at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Camp Stephenson Thursday morning.
The deadly blast, which was confirmed by the GDF, occurred at the Arms Store Complex at Timehri, East Bank Demerara around 9 a.m.
The circumstances of the explosion are being investigated.
However, a release issued by the GDF stated that “preliminary investigations have so far revealed that the soldiers were involved in the preparation of pyrotechnics for demolition when the incident occurred”.
Earlier this year, a soldier lost his life and several were injured in a fireworks explosion while preparing to celebrate Guyana’s Jubilee Republic anniversary in February. (CMC)
