Mother’s Day has always been a special occasion but, this year, because of coronavirus-related (COVID-19) restrictions, Barbadians will have to find unique ways to treat their mothers.

On the second Sunday in May, several restaurants from the South to the West Coast are usually packed to capacity as mothers dine on their day.

Days before the occassion, hundreds of Barbadians also go shopping for pretty flowers, gift baskets, chocolates, wine, stuffed animals, Mother’s Day cards and other tokens to show appreciation.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic will have an impact on the traditional ways mothers are toasted and recognised.

Yesterday, when a Sunday Sun visited Bridgetown, most of the stores remained closed. Businesses such as Cave Shepherd and Colombian Emeralds were closed.

A chat with some shoppers indicated that they were just doing their usual shopping to get food supplies and or material. (SB)
