SSA revenue takes big hit

Just under two years after Government weaned the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) off the Consolidated Fund and financed it from collection of the Garbage and Sewage Contribution (GSC) levy, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic may put that move in reverse.

This is because revenues from the GSC have fallen by more than 60 per cent, Minister of the Environment and National Beautification Trevor Prescod has revealed.

“The reality is that if we cannot bring in the revenue through the levy, we have to go back to Parliament.

“We took the financing off of the Consolidated Fund before. We may now have to go back to that fund and make up the needs of the Sanitation Service Authority,” said Prescod during a press briefing last Friday. (CLM)
