Cumberbatch waiting on Canada call

BARBADIAN jockey Renaldo Cumberbatch is anxiously awaiting a work permit to continue his riding career in Canada.

Apart from waiting on the paperwork to be completed, Cumberbatch is also hoping the all- clear will soon be given to resume travelling from the Caribbean to North America in light of the coronavirus.

All systems are go over at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Canada from Saturday, May 24 – the revised opening day of the 2020 season, which is now slated to conclude on September 20.

Cumberbatch, who finished third in last season’s standings with 38 wins, will share the jockeys’ room with countrymen Antonio Whitehall, Dario Dalrymple, Shavon Belle and Nirone Austin who all ply their trade in Canada.

“Presently, the Canadian border in Canada which issues permits for jockey under entertainment is still closed because of the pandemic,” he told MIDWEEK SPORT.
