Minister of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce Dwight Sutherland is urging small retailers to form a cooperative.

He made the call following a tour of Trimart Supermarket, Mile-And-A-Quarter, St Peter on May 15.

“They, small supermarkets and village shops, need to try to achieve economies of scale in terms of buying patterns, whether buying regionally or locally. That way, you will get better pricing going down to the consumer,” he said.

The minister said what they found with most of the smaller retailers was they did not have the storage space to buy in bulk like some of the larger retailers. (RA)
