Mario Ricardo Absalon has spent the “better part of his 20s” in prison having been introduced to a life of crime by his sister’s boyfriend. But, said his attorney Angella Mitchell-Gittens, the soon-to-be 26-year-old was not beyond redemption.
Absalon, of Blades Hill, St Philip, was back in the No. 2 Supreme Court before Justice Randall Worrell after pleading guilty, at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, to stealing Vernon King’s car valued at $52 000 between October 15 and 16, 2015; stealing Hyacinth Louis’ car, worth $10 000, between April 24 and 25, 2016; as well as a $12 000 car belonging to Merlene Clarke, between February 20 and 21, 2015.
He has spent 565 days on remand, in between different stints of short prison sentences.
“I am truly sorry for the crimes I have committed against the country of Barbados and I am asking for leniency in sentencing,” Absalon stated. (HLE)
