A MAN who stabbed another in defence of a friend was jailed for 12 years by the No. 5 Supreme Court on June 15.
However, Dwaine Rawlston Leyland Simmonds, 31, will serve just over two years in prison for his actions.
Simmonds, of Passage Gardens, Passage Road, St Michael, had denied murdering Darryn Peter O’Brian Browne, 24, formerly of Coverley, Christ Church, between August 29 and 30, 2014.
He, however, pleaded guilty to the lesser count of unlawfully killing the man – manslaughter – between the same dates.
Crown Counsel Danielle Mottley and Principal Crown Counsel Krystal Delaney appeared for the Crown, while Simmonds was represented by attorney Dennis Headley.
Simmonds apologised to Browne’s family and “loved ones” and also to his family. He added he had no intention of killing Browne and again apologised to Browne’s parents.
