Experienced all-rounder Kevin Stoute has been drafted by the Windward Islands Volcanoes for the 2020-21 Regional Professional Cricket League while champions Barbados Pride have signed up prolific E.S.A Field Pickwick batsman Kyle Hope.
Stoute, 34, who has played all his career with Barbados Pride, has been one of the top all-round performers in regional cricket during the last decade. He has captured 154 wickets at an impressive average of 21.76 apiece with his fast-medium seam bowling and has scored three centuries while scoring 2929 runs at an average of 27.63 in 76 first-class matches.
Hope, 31, who had been representing Trinidad & Tobago Red Force, has two hundreds in 50 first-class matches while accumulating 2500 runs at an average of 29.76. He has also represented the West Indies in five Tests and seven one-day internationals.
He and 22-year-old all-rounder Shamar Springer, who has played just seven first-class matches, were the two players chosen by Barbados Pride during Monday’s West Indies Professional Players Draft, where each franchise was required to pick two players to complete their 15-man contracted squad.
Cricket West Indies’ director of cricket Jimmy Adams said he was pleased that the regional franchise draft was completed.
“Franchises can now focus on implementing post-lockdown training to gradually build towards their full programmes. Obviously, we are all hopeful that we will soon be given the all-clear by the respective governments to resume full franchise operations,” Adams said. (EZS)
