One of Barbados’ biggest poultry producers is on a mission to reduce the excess amount of frozen foods.
However, that goal will come at a cost to some employees of Chickmont Foods Ltd who, from next week, will work only two days as the company reduces production.
General manager Edward Albecker made that announcement on June 19 at the company’s Lowlands, Christ Church facility, before touring the plant with Minister of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce Dwight Sutherland and chief executive officer Dominic Defreitas.
As a result of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the company laid off 130 employees and retained 300. (TG)
