The Anglican Church held its first services in almost four months on June 21, and it was a much different affair than normal.
At St Michael’s Cathedral in The City, the changes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant health protocols were apparent right from the entrance, as those entering the church had their temperatures checked, hands sanitised, and names, telephone numbers and identification numbers recorded.
The DAILY NATION team was present for the 9 a.m. service, the second of the day. Each pew featured stickers showing where people should sit to ensure proper physical distancing. There was also a hands-free sanitisation station in the middle of the aisle for those wishing to take communion.
The sacrament was also changed as the officiating minister sanitised his hands but no wine was served from the chalice, as only the priest drank, while the congregation were given bread. (CA)
