Wood: Price hike on wings wrong

Former chairman of the Barbados Agricultural and Development Marketing Agency (BADMC), Anthony Wood, is calling on Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley to review a recent hike in chicken wing prices.

Wood, who resigned from the BADMC on April 30 and the Barbados Labour Party last week, called in to Starcom Network’s Down To Brass Tacks radio programme yesterday with the request.

He indicated that Government’s two-month ban on wing imports helped big business and hurt small poultry farmers, which was the sector it should be instead helping.

Wood said that from Tuesday, the BADMC, upon resumption of the sale of chicken wings, moved the price of a box of the product from $132.25 to $159. (BA)
