Liners ‘not ready’ for normal cruising

It is still too early to say when cruise ships will be returning to their normal schedule, says chairman of the Barbados Port Inc., Senator Lisa Cummins.

During a recent interview, she said cruise lines were still in negotiations with international health agencies.

“Some of the companies are still navigating the ‘no sail’ order from the CDC (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention), so until such time they are able to come to an agreement – especially as most of them are sailing predominately from places like Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach in Florida – they have to meet the CDC regulations.  So at this time we are not in a position to say when they are likely to restart,” she said.

The CDC had extended the order until July 24, but the United States cruise industry has since voluntarily extended it until September. (CA)
