It is now June 23. That is the new date for the official launch of Crop Over given by the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), producers of the festival for the First Citizen Crop Over Xplosion under the theme Tuk It Up, to be held at King George the V Park in St Philip.

Postponed last Friday, a day before the launch on June 2, the new newly appointed Minister of Creative Economy, Culture and Sports, the Honourable John King said he needed more time to be briefed extensively on the festival, having only taken up office on May 28.

In a release sent out by the NCF today, it stated King and the new Permanent Secretary to the Ministry Deborah Payne had met and the calendar will go forward as planned.

Crop Over In The City is still on tomorrow, Thursday and then up next on Sunday, June 10 is the BTPA Crop Over Heritage Bus Tour.

In the statement King articulated that at the end of the season, having been able to make a full assessment, he would be in a more informed position to take any necessary decisions that will carve the ‘futurescape’ of this important pillar of the economy.

Formerly known as the Ceremonial Delivery and Blessing Of The Last Cane, First Citizens Crop Over Xplosion tagged ‘Tuk-it-Up!’ is expected to be a cohobblopot of sounds, smells, tastes and sights showcasing the island’s rich cultural traditions of the Festival seen through a forward looking lens that is more attractive to a younger audience.
