Barbados has 24 new COVID-19 cases in two days and authorities are expecting the numbers to climb this week as airlines fly in and out of the country.
Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic delivered the news to Barbadians yesterday via Zoom from his home where he is self-quarantining after coming into contact with arriving Ghana nurses on Thursday, 9 of whom had the coronavirus.
He said in anticipation of more imported cases the ministry was prioritising the scaling up of testing, isolation and contact tracing, the most effective ways of keeping the infection away from the public.
On Friday, 12 of the arriving 95 Ghanaian nurses here to boost the island’s healthcare were positive for the coronavirus and on Saturday another six men and six women tested by the same Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory were positive. Seven of the passengers were on JetBlue from JFK Airport in New York and three were shared between British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. (AC)
