Barbados recorded one new COVID-19 infection from a person who arrived on Tuesday.

Dr Corey Forde made the clarification during a press conference hosted by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley at Ilaro Court to address any concerns being raised by Barbadians in light of the spike of 24 cases over the weekend.

It is a 69-year-old Barbadian woman, who arrived on British Airways on August 4, bringing the total to 133.

Meanwhile, two people recovered and will leave the isolation facility today. The number in isolation fell to 26 and those recovering rose to 100.

The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory conducted 217 tests yesterday, and 12 057 since February 11.

Forde, Head of the Infection Prevention and Control/Infectious Diseases Programme at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, said there were eight people in secondary isolation who needed “a bit more observation” and there were ten males and ten females in tertiary observation.

He said over the last 24 hours, one male who was admitted to primary isolation (Intensive Care Unit) was doing quite well and would be sent back to secondary isolation for more monitoring.

Nine nurses from Ghana, 12 Barbadians returning from overseas and one male visitor accounted for the spike. (SAT)
